These are the commands that we use at the Club.
It is important that all members of your family learn these commands and use them correctly
GOOD DOG The most important ‘command’ of all. Use it often, whenever your dog is really trying to do what you want. Praise reinforces good behaviour.
OK A release word. Used to release the dog from a previous command. The dog is then free to do what it likes, until given another command
Sit (Sit UP) The dog must sit and remain sitting until given another command or the release word ‘OK’
Down (LAY Down) The dog must lay down and remain down until given another command or the release word ‘OK’
Sit Down The impossible command Think! Your dog can’t sit and lay down at the same time. Never say this. Sit and Down are two separate commands.
Heel The dog should walk on your left side, under control, on a slack lead, without pulling, dragging or stopping
Come Whatever it is doing, the dog must immediately return to you and sit facing you.
NO! Stop what you are doing immediately. Used to stop any unwanted behaviour, including jumping up. Don’t use ‘down’ for this.
Stand The dog must stand and remain standing until given another command or the release word ‘OK’
Wait The dog must remain in its current position (sit, down or stand) without moving and wait for another command, which may be given from a distance.
Stay The dog must remain in its current position (sit, down or stand) without moving and stay until you return and give it the release word OK.
